School Visit: Pleasant Ridge Elementary

On February 22, 2012, Charlie and I spent the day at Pleasant Ridge Elementary school in Saline, Michigan. Everything about our visit lived up to the school’s name. The students were pleasant. The yummy lunch from the HoneyBaked Ham Company was pleasant. Our hostess, fellow Michigan author Carrie Harris, was also pleasant. She really helped make our day enjoyable and easy. So did her two special helpers. You know who you are. But don’t take our word for the pleasantness for granted. Check out the pics below for proof.

Fortunately the heroes’ truck was nothing like Dad’s ancient wreck. They named the vehicle Crime Crusher and it looked ready to do exactly that. Crush crime and anything else in its way.

A red, white, and blue paint job gave the truck a patriotic presence. Wheels as tall as tigers made it seem like a crouching cat, preparing to pounce. Police sirens crowned its roof. There was no doubt this vehicle raced for the good guys.

School Visit: Musson Elementary 2012

On February 16, 2012 Charlie and I visited Musson Elementary in Rochester Hills, Michigan for the first time. Our hostess, Mrs. Nicole Stratton of the PTA, planned a nice day and a delicious lunch from Main Street Deli. We put on three performances for students in the gymnasium and enjoyed shooting hoops between shows.

We also got to meet a pretty famous star–the Musson Mustang! What an honor. :)

School Visit: Surline Elementary 2012

What do Charlie and I do on a planned day off? Schedule a visit to one of our favorite schools. In this case, we’re talking Surline Elementary in West Branch, Michigan on February 21, 2012. Can you blame us though? Look at that crowd above. And keep in mind that we performed three shows. That was just one crowd. Even after our performances the students couldn’t get enough. A group mobbed Charlie seeking bookmarks and autographs.

Do you think Coca-Cola plant next to the school helped convince us to visit on short notice?

Hardly! Blame Principal Gail Hughey. She invited us back after our first visit in 2010 and wouldn’t take “NO” for an answer. Thanks, Mrs. Hughey! We had a great day.

School Visit: Havel Elementary 2012

February 10, 2012 was a busy day for Charlie and me. We visited Roberts Elementary in the morning and Havel Elementary in Sterling Heights, Michigan in the afternoon. What a rowdy bunch at Havel! You can see for yourself in the video below. Sorry for the poor quality. I recorded it on my phone. The students are repeatedly shouting “Rocket ship! Rocket ship!” while Charlie juggles. “Rocket ship” is a popular trick he performs. Thank you to Media Specialist Holly Wolf for inviting us!

School Visit: Roberts Elementary 2012

On Thursday February 10th, Charlie and I revisited Roberts Elementary in Shelby Township, Michigan. Not only did we put on two exciting presentations in the morning, we also enjoyed an awesome pizza and pop lunch with students in the library afterward. How’s that for breaking some of the rules at school? Eating, drinking, and being noisy in the library. We authors and readers really know how to live it up. Extra thanks to Media Specialist Kristin Bemis for hosting our visit. Fun + food = WIN!

Look at this! Fellow Michigan author and friend Mark Crilley also visited Roberts Elementary. We spotted some of his artwork on the library wall.

Dad strolled out of the house. “You kids need any help?” he offered. “I was pretty handy in auto shop class back in high school. I had a regular green thumb.”

The twins shot him a look.

“A green thumb?” Abigail inquired.

“That’s for plants, not cars and trucks,” Andrew said, rolling his eyes.

Dad chuckled. “Shows what you know. My assignment was to restore an old 1949 Cadillac Fleetwood. Wood and wheels takes a green thumb.”

“Muscles,” Zoë said, stating the obvious. Nearby, her brother and sister shared a look. There she goes again.

“That’s right, Zoë,” Abigail said patiently. “You have super strength.”

“You sure do,” Andrew agreed. “We couldn’t have built this truck without you.”

Zoë nodded enthusiastically. She was proud of herself. It wasn’t every baby sister that could lift a truck over her head. What better way for her brother to give it an oil change?

Last but definitely not least is Baby Zoë. She’s proof that big things can come in small packages. She still wears a diaper, but she can fly to the moon and back faster than you can say Swiss cheese. What’s that? The Space Shuttle needs help? Zoë to the rescue. She puts the miss in mission.
